I'm Debbie Deen and I'm President of the Wills Point ISD Education Foundation Board of Directors. I have been on the board since its inception in September of 2017. I grew up in Kaufman and graduated from Kaufman High School. I attended Tyler Junior College and received my Bachelors Degree from UT Tyler. Later, I received my Masters Degree from Texas A&M at Commerce. My education career spanned 32 years. 22 of those years were in Wills Point. I was the Principal at the Wills Point Primary School for 21 years.
My husband, Bobby, was raised in Wills Point. He, along with our children Taylor and Zach, all graduated from Wills Point High School. My connection to the Wills Point community and Wills Point ISD runs deep. That is why I feel privileged to serve on this Board of Directors. To be able to enhance the education process for the teachers and students of Wills Point ISD is very rewarding!
Theresa Turner has been a resident of Wills Point for 43 years. She is married to her husband of 51 years, Larry Turner. Their children are Wendi Prescott and Len Turner. Larry and Theresa have two grandchildren, Hope Turner and Lance Turner, who both attend WPISD. Her son, Len, is the Head Boys Tennis coach at WPHS.
Mrs. Turner attended Sam Houston State University where she was President of Social Sorority Delta Zeta.
She is a retired teacher after 34 years, many of those in WPISD.
Larry and Theresa are members of Russell Memorial United Methodist Church where she serves as member of chancel choir, Director of Ladies Hand Bells Choir, Chairman of Methodist Day School Board. She is also Secretary of the Van Zandt County Long Term Recovery Group formed in 2017.
The Turners can be seen about Wills Point serving others and attending their grandchildren's sporting events on a regular basis.
Kelly Bryant Rogers was born to Cecil (deceased) and Sandy Bryant on November 3, 1967 in Terrell, Texas. She attended Terrell ISD through the 6th grade. Kelly’s parents and younger sister Beth Bryant Rudolph moved to their new home in Elmo the summer of 1980.
Kelly transferred to Wills Point ISD in the 7th grade. She was involved in band and athletics from 1980-1985. She made 1st chair All District clarinet her 7th grade year. She was involved in Wills Point’s first Rifle Corps in 1982. She participated in the VOE program (Vocational Office Education) in 1984-1986. Kelly was hired by Citizen’s National Bank the summer of 1985. After graduating in 1986 in the top 10 of her class, City National Bank Formerly Citizens National Bank offered her a full-time position. She remains employed there as a Deposit Service Officer.
She has two children: Austin Rogers, 1995, and Ashton Rogers, 1998. Kelly moved back to Wills Point in 2002. Both Austin and Ashton graduated from WPISD in 2013 and 2015.
Her love for gardening and cooking was rewarded in 2004 for winning Yard of the Month and again in 2010 for winning the State Fair of Texas Blue Ribbon for her stewed tomatoes.
Kelly is currently serving as the Wills Point ISD Education Foundation Treasurer.
Kathy Laney is a 1972 graduate of Wills Point High School. She and her husband David (class of 1966) are fourth generation Wills Pointers. They have two daughters; Andrea (class of 1996) and Jamie (class of 2001), and one granddaughter, Laney.
Kathy graduated from East Texas State University in 1975 with a BS in Elementary Education. She obtained a Master’s Degree in Education and a Learning Resource Specialist certification from ETSU in 1982. After teaching in the Fruitvale district for five years, she returned home to Wills Point Junior High to teach English. In 1988, she became the Wills Point High School Librarian. Kathy retired from this position in 2008, with a total of 33 years in education.
Because of her deep roots in the community and school district of Wills Point, Kathy takes her position on the Wills Point Education Foundation Board very seriously. She believes that the Foundation plays an integral part in helping provide the extra means to give the teachers and students in the district a quality educational experience.
Sundy Mayfield Rodgers is a founding member of the Wills Point Education Foundation. She was born and raised in Wills Point. After graduating from Wills Point High School in 1967, Sundy attended East Texas State University earning her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and her Masters degree in Special Education.
She married Bob Rodgers in 1972. Their daughter Jennifer Rodgers Chick, husband Steve, and granddaughter Mandy live in DeSoto, KS. As a proud Marine’s wife she traveled extensively with Bob in the U.S. and abroad. Upon Bob’s retirement from the military in 1989, they made their way home to Wills Point.
Sundy was employed by Terrell ISD for 10 years before taking the position of Special Education Director for Wills Point ISD in 1999. Sundy’s love for and ties to Wills Point run deep. Her mother, Agnes, was employed by WPISD where she taught first grade for many years. Her father, Gene, owned Mayfield Tractor Co. in Wills Point. Her brother, Harvey Gene, graduated Wills Point High School in 1964. Sundy’s husband, Bob Rodgers, was Principal at Wills Point Intermediate for five years before he passed away in 2001. Sundy is proud to say she has had a family member attending WPISD every year since 1945.
Sundy retired from education in 2013 after 28 years of service. She is actively involved with the community, school, and church. She enjoys visiting family/ friends, and traveling. She is a member of New Release Fellowship Baptist Church. Sundy enjoys giving back to her community in any way she can. Being a board member for the Wills Point Education Foundation is a fun and unique way to do just that.
Angie (Poston) Maddox grew up in the Wills Point area and attended Wills Point Schools from grades K-12. She was very active while in school and was very involved in many areas, serving on student council, Varsity cheerleader, and was a member and/or officer of many other clubs and organizations. She graduated as Salutatorian from WPHS in 1992. Angie is married to her WP High School sweetheart, Michael Maddox (Class of ’91), a Fireman/Paramedic with the City of Richardson, where he has served since 1997. After living in the Dallas area for a few years, Michael and Angie moved back to Wills Point area in 1999 and live on 56 acres in the Hiram Community, near where she grew up. They have 2 boys that have both attended school at WP since Kindergarten. Angie’s mother, Vicki Poston, and in-laws, Jan & Mike Lyle, all worked for/taught in WPISD for many years and each of them still live in the area as well. Angie is very involved in the WP schools has always volunteered as often as possible when help is needed. Angie graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1995 from the University of North Texas and holds her Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Design, with a minor in Marketing. She has worked in the Marketing and Graphic Design field since she graduated in 1995. She is currently the Advertising/Graphic Designer at Prestoncrest Church of Christ in Dallas (began in 2007) where she and her family are members and have attended church since 1995, and also does freelance work from time to time. Angie has served on the WPISDEF board since it began in the fall of 2017.
Jana, a 2008, third generation graduate of WPHS, was raised in Wills Point and still resides here today. She is currently the Vice President of the Wills Point ISD Education Foundation and a founding member of the board since its inception in September of 2017. After graduating high school, from WPISD, Jana received a softball scholarship to Ouachita Baptist University where she played for two years and started her accounting degree, in 2010 Jana transferred to the University of North Texas were she graduated in 2012 with a Bachelors of Science in Accounting. Upon graduation she worked in Dallas for 5 years, at Grant Thornton, LLP as an auditor. In early 2017, Brazos Trailer Manufacturing, LLC, a rapidly growing Wills Point company hired Jana as their Controller, a position which she still holds today. Wills Point Tiger Pride runs deep in Jana’s blood, her family roots have grown through the WPISD school system for generations, and she plans to continue that growth with her children one day. She hopes by being involved now, she can make an impactful difference that will only improve our district and community for future generations.
I am an alumni of Wills Point High School graduating in 1996. Soon after, I moved away to experience new adventures. I received my BS in Cytotechnology from State University of New York, Upstate Medical University in Syracuse. I am certified as Cytotechnologist (CT) with American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) and International Academy of Cytopathology (IAC). Cytotechnologist are certified to review cells under microscope to determine cancer or other diseases. My experience includes working with many wonderfully diverse professionals and scientists.
I met my husband, John, and lived in Northeast PA for 14 years before convincing him to move to Texas in November 2011. I received my MBA from UT Dallas in 2015. At UT Southwestern, I have held several positions as Supervisor Cytopathology, Manager of Anatomic Pathology, and Assistant Director Clinical Laboratory Services. My experience goes well beyond laboratory testing; to include the executive business side of healthcare. I am also a Certified Six Sigma Green Belt (CSSGB) through American Society of Quality (ASQ). Along with patient testing; I have extensive experience in budgeting, staffing positions, teaching/training team members, marketing, planning/advising new construction & reconstruction, designing labs and patient service centers, and troubleshooting complex patient care issues.
After years of living in the city, it was time to move back to Wills Point. My sons, Arik (class 2025) and Ian (class 2026) are students in the district. I was eager to volunteer in my community and joined the Education Foundation in and Wills Point Ladies Club. My family and I attend St Luke’s Catholic Church in Wills Point.
I believe that if I contribute to society, this will help motivate others and future generations to build a strong, contemporary, and responsible community.
Melanie is a 1997 graduate of WPHS. She, along with her husband Doug, a 1990 graduate of WPHS, and their children still reside in Wills Point. Seth (2017), Abagail (2018), and Adasyn (2026) all attend/attended Wills Point ISD since Kindergarten.
Melanie earned her BS in English Composition and Literature and MEd Leadership from Texas A&M University- Commerce. She has taught secondary English, and was most recently the Principal at Woods Intermediate before moving to Central Administration to become the Communications Director for the district and Executive Director of the Foundation. Melanie is passionate about serving others in her community. The Foundation gives her the opportunity to give back to the teachers and students of Wills Point who supported and encouraged her to pursue a career in education.
Melanie was on the launch committee when the Foundation was formed in 2017 and the Gala Committee, helping coordinate the first annual WPISDEF Gala.
